Jewelry Care

General Instructions

Mapperri Jewelry is meticulously crafted by professional artisans. Experienced specialists oversee every step with strict standards to ensure the best possible quality. Each piece requires careful handling.

  • Avoid contact with any chemicals except for a professional jewelry care kit. Cosmetics and perfumes can harm jewelry. Harsh elements like chlorine and household cleaners cause dullness, discoloration, and oxidation.
  • Remove jewelry before sleeping, bathing, swimming, or participating in activities that may cause physical damage. Avoid contact with sharp surfaces.
  • Use a soft cloth to clean jewelry. Avoid paper towels or stiff tissues, as they may leave scratches.
  • Store metal jewelry in a safe pouch or box. Place pieces separately to avoid scratching.
  • Pearls need ventilation. Long-term storage in air-tight containers may change their original color.

Solid Gold

14K solid gold is resistant to tarnishing but still requires care.

  • Avoid contact with chemicals – cosmetics, perfume, chlorine, household cleaners, and abrasives.
  • Do not expose to sharp surfaces.

How to Clean

  • Clean solid gold occasionally and polish when needed.
  • Soak in water for an hours, then gently rub with a soft brush or cloth. Dry completely before storing.
  • Use gentle soap if necessary.
  • Ultrasonic cleaners are safe for solid gold.

    Sterling Silver

Sterling silver tarnishes over time and needs occasional maintenance.

    • Avoid chemicals – cosmetics, perfume, chlorine, household cleaners, and abrasives.
    • Do not expose to sharp surfaces.
    • Store in a soft pouch or air-tight container to reduce tarnishing.

    How to Clean

    • Use a soft cloth to gently rub the surface of the jewelry.
    • To remove tarnish, gently wipe out with silver cleaning/polishing cloth or relavant products, rinse with warm water, and let dry.

      Vermeil or Plated Jewelry

      What is Vermeil?
Vermeil is thick gold plating over sterling silver. Mapperri uses a thicker layer of plating and adds an extra e-coat to some items for better durability. Mapperri’s vermeil lasts longer than standard plating.

Over time, vermeil may naturally tarnish, especially when exposed to chemicals, perspiration, oils, and dirt.

      • Avoid contact with chemicals – cosmetics, perfume, chlorine, household cleaners, and abrasives.
      • Avoid sharp surfaces.

      How to Clean

      • Use a soft, damp cloth to gently wipe away dirt and sweat.
      • For occasional care, or if the jewelry gets sweaty, rinse in water and allow it to dry fully before storing. Store in an air-sealed bag when not in use to protect against daily exposure. Store pieces separately to prevent damage. For deeper cleaning, wash gently with soapy water, dry thoroughly, and store in an air-sealed pouch. Use a silver polishing cloth to gently clean spot-tarnished areas without damaging the gold plating.

        Pearls

Pearls are made from layers of calcium carbonate and are highly delicate.

        • Wear pearls often to maintain their luster.
        • Pearls benefit from moderate air exposure. In extremely dry conditions, they may crack.
        • Do not soak pearls strung on silk in water, as it weakens the silk.
        • Avoid long-term storage in airtight containers, as lack of ventilation may alter their color.

        How to Store

        • Store frequently worn pearls in a soft cloth pouch or safe tray, not in plastic bags.
        • For long-term storage, ensure they are exposed to air. Occasionally take them out to prevent dryness.

        How to Clean

        • Gently wipe with a soft cloth.
        • Avoid harsh cleaners or polishing cloths.
        • Do not use ultrasonic cleaners.

        Gemstones

        Mapperri uses genuine mineral stones.

        • Gemstones vary in hardness. Avoid sharp impacts or exposure to harsh elements.
        • Keep gemstones away from intense exposure to:
          • Direct sunlight
          • Saltwater
          • Perspiration
          • Cosmetics
          • Harsh chemicals, including chlorine (e.g., swimming pool water)

        How to Store

        • When not being worn, store gemstones in a dry, safe place to protect them from environmental damage.

        How to Clean

        • Diamonds: Clean with ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, or mild soap like hand or dishwashing detergent.
        • Colored gemstones: Clean gently with lukewarm water and non-detergent soap. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners, as they may damage or discolor the stones.
